United by their grief
“It started by us both liking cigarettes, a lot!” Robi Damelin and Ali Abu Awwad, on the roof balcony of Notre-Dame de France hotel overlooking Jerusalem, lost a son and a brother respectively, and have used their loss to try to spread the word of peace. A Palestinian whose brother was shot in the head by an Israeli soldier. An Israeli mother who lost a son to a Palestinian sniper. Brought together by a bereavement group, with members from both sides of the conflict, they are now spreading a message of peace.
